Learn Spanish in Asunción: Schools, Tutors, and Where to Practice for Free
Every lease, bank form and Migraciones visit is in Spanish. Here are the schools, the one that publishes prices, and the free exchanges where Paraguayans practice English with you and you practice Spanish with them.
Fluido Spanish School (Villa Morra)
Fluido runs from Villa Morra and publishes its prices:
- Morning groups: 9 am–1 pm, Monday to Friday, ₲1,800,000 a week.
- Afternoon groups: 2–5 pm, Monday to Friday, ₲1,350,000 a week.
- Private lessons: ₲300,000 an hour, scheduled between 9 am and 5 pm on weekdays.
A class "hour" is 55 minutes, groups top out at four students, and the school expects group students every weekday. It takes cards, guaraníes in cash and Paraguayan bank transfers. Fluido also runs a homestay program with local families.
The fit: a fixed weekday schedule and a ready-made social circle. Only free two evenings a week? Look at private lessons or the schools below.
Established schools
IDIPAR (Instituto de Idiomas del Paraguay) has taught Spanish and Guaraní to foreigners since 1982, with 7 Spanish levels and 3 Guaraní levels, and lessons on Zoom. It is listed at Manduvirá 963 at Colón, downtown. Ask for a quote; it is also the school to ask about Guaraní.
Hispana Paraguay teaches Spanish to foreigners at Mencia de Sanabria 229 at 12 de Octubre. Ask for prices on WhatsApp at 0983 232 339 or by email.
Group or one-to-one?
Group classes are the better buy in your first months if you can protect a block of the day. Fluido's afternoon week is 15 class hours for ₲1,350,000, or ₲90,000 an hour, and you get classmates to practice with.
One-to-one is the better buy if you work your home country's hours, already hold a conversation, or would skip half the group sessions. At ₲300,000 an hour, two private hours a week cost ₲2,400,000 over four weeks, more than one group week.
Where to practice for free
Spanglish is the language-exchange name that keeps coming up: Spanish and English speakers, all levels, rotating venues. The community site describes events as monthly; a July 2026 going-out guide said editions land once or twice a month, sometimes Saturday, sometimes not, historically about $5–10 if there's a cover. It is not every Saturday; check before you go.
BlaBla Language Exchange lists an Asunción 2025/2026 series, tickets at ₲15,000 in advance (or €2 ahead, €5 at the door). It's a mingle, not a lesson, and dates live on their site rather than a fixed calendar.
Two adjacent meetups are where the Spanish actually happens, because Paraguayans attend. A July 2026 guide names a Tuesday Afterwork English Networking group (about 225 Meetup members, free if you buy a drink, rotating between spots like Koggi and Café Comporta) and a Thursday Digital Nomads and Expats Social (about 468 members, free, rotating through Unaghi, JazzCube, La Vermutería, Das Brauhaus), estimated at about 30% local. Check the venue the day of; both skip weeks. (See our meetups page for the current calendar.) And of course the Open Asu meetups mix members at every level of Spanish, which is half the point of showing up.
Should you learn Guaraní?
Learn a greeting; don't delay Spanish for it. Under Article 140 of the Constitution, Paraguay is bilingual: Spanish and Guaraní are both official languages. Everyday speech mixes the two into jopará (Spanish and Guaraní in the same sentence). Start with mba'éichapa (how are you?) and our jopará survival kit, then add a Guaraní course at IDIPAR once your Spanish holds up.
FAQ
How much do Spanish classes cost in Asunción?
Fluido Spanish School publishes its prices: ₲1,800,000 a week for morning group classes, ₲1,350,000 a week for afternoon groups and ₲300,000 an hour for private lessons. IDIPAR and Hispana Paraguay quote on request.
What is the best Spanish school in Asunción for expats?
Fluido, in Villa Morra, is built for newcomers, with groups of up to four and published prices. IDIPAR has taught foreigners since 1982 and also teaches Guaraní. Hispana Paraguay teaches Spanish to foreigners near 12 de Octubre.
Can I learn Spanish in Asunción for free?
Mostly, yes, through exchange rather than classes. Spanglish and BlaBla Language Exchange run mingling events (free to about $10), and the Tuesday Afterwork and Thursday Digital Nomads meetups draw a meaningful local crowd, so real Spanish practice happens there. Pair free practice with a structured week or two of school and you'll progress far faster than with either alone.
Do I need Guaraní to live in Asunción?
No. Spanish covers official business, banks and landlords. Guaraní is co-official and mixed into everyday jopará, so a few phrases go a long way.
The fastest Spanish practice is a table of people who switch languages for you. Join Open Asu on WhatsApp and come to the next meetup.
