Asunción bus station: tickets, departures and getting there

Looking for the Terminal de Ómnibus de Asunción, or TOA? The station’s website calls it the Estación de Buses de Asunción, or EBA. These names refer to the same bus station at Avenida Fernando de la Mora and Avenida República Argentina. Start with your destination and travel date, find the carrier, then confirm where and how your particular service boards.

EBA and TOA: which name should you search?

Use either full name together with Asunción, then check the address. The station’s own website uses EBA. TOA remains common in older information and municipal records. A municipal-council report from August 2025 records a dispute over the legal basis of the name change, so describing TOA as simply an obsolete name would be misleading. For a passenger, the practical point is that these names identify the same station.

Address reference: Avenida Fernando de la Mora at Avenida República Argentina, Asunción. The municipality identifies this junction in its station-access works notice. A map pin helps you reach the site; the correct passenger entrance and boarding area still depend on your service. Ask station staff rather than following a bus into its vehicle access.

How to find the departure you actually need

  1. Search the destination. Open Horarios y destinos and enter the town’s name. EBA notes that a place may appear as the final destination or as a stop in the itinerary. If your town is an intermediate stop, confirm that the specific service lets you get off there.
  2. Read the whole row. Check the operating days, company, service type, counter or boarding note, itinerary and payment column. A similar destination name does not mean the same route. Watch for seasonal or alternating-day notes.
  3. Open the carrier’s listing. Use Empresas to find the company’s own EBA page and contact. Counter hours and bus departure times are different things.
  4. Confirm the date and seat. Ask the operator about the exact departure, arrival stop, total fare, seat availability, luggage allowance and required arrival time. A published timetable entry does not reserve a seat or confirm that today’s departure is running.

For an overnight service, say the calendar date as well as the time: a departure just after midnight belongs to the new day. Save the ticket and confirmation where you can open them without a signal.

Three steps: search the destination, confirm with the carrier, then follow the boarding instructions for that service

Tickets, payment and boarding: three different situations

Long-distance and international companies

The directory lists numbered sales counters. For example, the official Nuestra Señora de la Asunción page lists counters 39–41 and cash, bank transfer and POS payment. This is a dated example, not a promise that every seller accepts every card or payment method. Check with your chosen company.

For online booking, start from the carrier’s verified website or official contact. For example, NSA’s own website has a ticket search by origin, destination and date. Before paying, check the operator, departure station, destination stop, travel date, final total and cancellation conditions. Ask whether a mobile ticket is enough or whether you must collect or print something. At the station, take the ticket to that company’s counter or follow its instructions, confirm the platform, and keep the boarding deadline separate from the departure time.

Some regional services: lower level, pay the driver

EBA’s published table labels certain services, including listings for San Buenaventura to Yaguarón and Villa Serrana to Tobatí, with “Embarcar en subsuelo” and cash payment directly to the driver. Those words mean board on the lower level. Ask for the specific company and destination when you arrive; do not generalize this arrangement to every nearby town or every bus.

Metropolitan buses bringing you to the station

These are a separate system. MOPC’s transport FAQ describes Jaha and Más card validation on metropolitan public buses. The cash instruction on a regional EBA listing does not replace the card you may need for your city-bus transfer. Our getting-around guide explains the cards and route-checking tools.

Getting to the station and finding your entrance

By ride app or taxi: give the full station name and the Fernando de la Mora / República Argentina address. Confirm a public passenger drop-off with the driver, then follow signs or ask for your company’s counter. Do not treat a map’s centre pin as a precise door. We have not verified a current entrance-by-entrance access plan.

By city bus: check a route from your actual starting point, its direction and the stop nearest the passenger entrance. Allow time to walk from the stop and find your counter or lower-level boarding area. We do not publish a fixed list of city routes here because a route number alone does not establish its current branch or direction.

From the airport: the airport and EBA are different terminals. Use the airport transfer guide to plan the first leg, and check the route all the way to EBA. Do not assume a bus advertised as airport-to-centre also stops at the bus station.

Accessibility: if stairs, distances or assistance affect your trip, ask the station and carrier which passenger entrance and boarding area to use before travelling. We have not verified a step-free route to every platform. For station-wide questions, the official contact page publishes WhatsApp +595 974 404 020.

Luggage storage, arrivals and onward connections

Left luggage: we did not find official confirmation of a currently operating storage desk, its hours, charges or conditions in the station sources reviewed. That does not establish that none exists. Ask through the official station contact before relying on it, including whether collection will be possible before your departure. Keep a backup plan such as asking your accommodation.

Bags travelling with you: ask the carrier about included pieces, size or weight limits, excess charges and how bags are identified. Keep documents, medication and valuables with you. If you receive a baggage receipt, retain it until you have collected your bag.

On arrival: collect all bags before arranging your onward ride. Agree on a clearly named public pickup point and match the vehicle details to your booking. For a second bus, confirm whether it leaves from EBA or another stop, allow for the first service running late, and check what happens if you miss the connection. We do not offer a universal safe transfer time.

Frequently asked questions

Are EBA and TOA two different stations?

No. Both names are used for the bus station at Avenida Fernando de la Mora and Avenida República Argentina in Asunción. The station’s website uses EBA.

Where can I check bus departures from Asunción?

Start with EBA’s Horarios y destinos page, then confirm the date, fare, seat and boarding instructions with the listed operator. Published entries are not a live availability guarantee.

Do I buy a ticket at a counter or pay the driver?

It depends on the service. Many companies have numbered counters; some regional listings specify lower-level boarding and cash paid to the driver. Read the entry for your exact company and destination.

Can I leave luggage at the station?

We have not verified a currently operating left-luggage service or its conditions. Ask the station before relying on storage and keep an alternative plan.

For places to go and what to do there, use our day trips from Asunción guide. If you would like company, suggest a plan in the Open Asu community with the destination, date, budget and a specific meeting point after confirming the transport. This is an invitation to organize a trip, not an advertised Open Asu departure.
