Water cuts in Asunción: check ESSAP and report a problem
No water at home? Start with the address on your bill, check whether the problem also affects nearby buildings, and look for an ESSAP notice for your area. Here’s how to choose the right reporting channel and keep track of your case.
Where to check ESSAP water-cut notices
Start at the ESSAP homepage. Its “Novedades” menu leads to “Informe de prensa”. If you find a notice through search or a forwarded screenshot, open the original source and check the publication date, the date of the work, and the named streets or barrios.
A notice for Asunción may cover only part of the city. Match it to your address and look for any later update. If you cannot find a matching notice, that alone does not establish that the network is working normally. Report the problem through the official channel.
Any published work window or estimate belongs to that specific incident. Ask ESSAP for the latest status rather than treating an old post as a restoration promise.
Your home, the building, or the network?
- One tap or one apartment: tell the owner or building administration what still works and what does not. Ask them to arrange the appropriate plumbing check.
- Several apartments in one building: ask the administration whether there is a tank, pump, internal maintenance or electricity issue. These are checks for the responsible staff or a qualified technician.
- Nearby buildings also affected, or a visible street leak: report the location and what you observed to ESSAP. Neighbors’ reports are useful context; ESSAP must confirm the network situation.
- A disconnection or account question: have the account holder check the bill and ask ESSAP which process applies. Do not assume that every interruption has the same cause.
If the water stopped during a power cut, see our Asunción power-outage guide as well. Ask the building staff about its pump system; do not open electrical equipment or attempt a pump repair yourself.
How to report a lack of water to ESSAP
By phone: use 021 162, the contact-center number displayed on the official homepage when checked. We have not tested call availability or waiting times.
Online: open the citizen portal, Mi ESSAP, and choose “Crea tus Reclamos”. The checked entry point leads to a login page. The fields available after login may vary; use the category that describes the actual issue, or ask the contact center if you are unsure.
Prepare this short checklist before contacting them:
- Street address, number, cross streets, barrio and city
- The account identifier from the bill, such as ISSAN or cuenta corriente catastral, if available
- When the problem began and whether there is no water, low pressure or a visible leak
- Whether other apartments or nearby buildings are affected
- A callback number and any useful photo you can take without approaching a hazard
If you rent and do not have the bill, ask the owner or administration for the relevant details. Keep account numbers, bills, identity documents and contact details within ESSAP’s official private channels. Do not post them in an open group or public comment.
ESSAP’s website still contains older contact announcements. Before using a WhatsApp number from an old article or screenshot, confirm it through the current official site or contact center.
A billing complaint uses a different path
For an amount or charge you want reviewed, the current ESSAP homepage has a separate “Reliquidación en línea” entry. Use that billing process rather than describing it as a neighborhood outage. Follow the requirements shown in the official form for your case. The linked billing page did not load reliably during our check; if it will not open, ask the contact center for the current route.
The portal also offers “Consulta tus Facturas”. Its public bill lookup asks for ISSAN or cuenta corriente catastral. Checking a bill or requesting a review does not establish when water service will return; confirm any disconnection or reconnection question directly with ESSAP.
Keep your case together and ask for updates
- Save the complaint reference or confirmation, if one is issued, plus the date and channel used. If you are speaking to an operator, ask for the reference and how to follow up.
- Keep a brief note of any new information, such as a change in pressure or another affected address.
- When you contact ESSAP again, quote the same reference and ask for the current status and next step.
If water is still unavailable after a general restoration announcement, tell ESSAP and your building administration what is happening at your specific address. An area-wide update does not verify every building’s internal supply.
For a concern about water quality, seek current, location-specific guidance from ESSAP and the relevant health authority. The official water-quality reports page contains historical reports; it does not establish the condition of the water coming from your tap today.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I check whether there is an ESSAP water cut today?
Check ESSAP’s official website for a dated notice matching your streets or barrio. If there is no matching notice, use its contact center or Mi ESSAP to report the problem. This page is a reporting guide, not a live outage map.
What is ESSAP’s reporting number?
The official homepage displayed 021 162 as its contact-center number when checked on 12 October 2026. Mi ESSAP also provides an online complaints entry point that leads to login.
Why might my building have no water while the neighbors do?
A building-specific issue is possible. Ask the administration to check its internal supply, tank, pump and any electricity problem through the responsible staff or a qualified technician. That observation alone cannot identify the cause.
Can Open Asu confirm when the water will return?
No. Ask ESSAP for the status of the incident or your complaint, and ask the building administration about any internal problem. Keep your reference so you can follow up.
