Jaha bus cards in Asunción: buying, recharging and avoiding old prices

If buses are going to be part of your week in Asunción, sort out the card before your first time-sensitive journey. Jaha is a payment card for buses in the national electronic-ticketing system. Its operator says it works on participating buses across providers; the brand on the validator does not by itself mean you need another card.

Buying the card: a real price conflict

On 19 October 2026, Jaha’s homepage advertised a single card price of Gs. 25,000 and linked to an overcharging complaint form. Its FAQ still quoted Gs. 15,000, explicitly dated 7 May 2021, with an included balance. Treat that older package as outdated information: use the current homepage figure as your reference and ask how much usable travel balance, if any, is included before paying. Neither figure is the bus fare.

The FAQ directs buyers to enabled Aquí Pago and Pago Express outlets. Use the operator’s map or Jaha GPS app to find a point close to home or work, then ask whether it sells cards as well as recharging them. A network logo alone does not establish that a particular counter has cards in stock.

Recharge and check before boarding

Jaha lists enabled points in those two networks for recharges and says the national system supports interoperable recharging. Its FAQ describes balance checks through the website or app and transaction history for users who have linked their card. Check your balance before leaving; keep the recharge receipt until the credit is reflected.

The FAQ’s minimum recharge is expressed as the highest applicable fare, rather than a fixed guaraní amount. Its numerical fare examples are old: do not use them to budget a current trip. The operator describes a credit journey after the first recharge, with repayment conditions. A positive balance for both directions is a more dependable plan than relying on that facility.

Protect the balance and confirm the route

Personalization associates a document, name and phone with the card and enables blocking and balance transfer after loss or damage. The FAQ asks for a cédula at a personalization point. If you only have a foreign passport, confirm acceptance with support at *5242 before making a special trip; passport eligibility was not established by this research.

Before tapping, ask the driver whether this route and branch reach your stop. Jaha says boarding the wrong bus does not produce a fare refund. If a bus breaks down and cannot continue, its FAQ describes a different process: the driver can issue a refund through the validator. These are separate situations, so explain the problem before paying again.
