Hairdressers and barbers in Asunción: book the cut you mean
Sources checked 6 November 2026
Finding a haircut in a new city is partly about finding a stylist, and partly about explaining what you want. In Asunción, a useful shortlist starts with the service, your hair and the branch you can actually reach. A good-looking portfolio or an English-language website does not prove that the person holding the scissors speaks English or works with your hair texture.

Below are three businesses with their own published service and location information, followed by a booking checklist and Spanish phrases. These are starting points to compare, not a ranking, personal recommendations or a claim that any salon suits everyone. Prices, staff availability, languages and suitability need direct confirmation.
Three places to start your shortlist
TAJOS Barberos: haircuts and beard care in Herrera
TAJOS’s own website lists haircuts and beard services. Its Central and Cottage spaces are both listed at Denis Roa 673, Barrio Herrera, Asunción, with booking through the site’s WhatsApp link. Ask which space and barber your booking is for.
The site also lists a branch inside the Club Internacional de Tenis, explicitly described as members-only. Do not select that location as if it were an unrestricted public branch. The website offers several language options, but that is not evidence that each barber can conduct a consultation in those languages.
Club Varsovia: two separately listed branches
Club Varsovia describes itself as a men’s hairdresser and barber and lists individual barbers with reservation links. Its locations are Luis Morales 898 at Sargento Gauto and Pancha Garmendia 5859, between Alas Paraguayas and R.I. 6 Boquerón, in Los Laureles.
Choose the branch before choosing the appointment, and check which barber produced the portfolio work you like. A booking at one address is not a booking at the other. This guide does not reproduce bank-card promotions or imply that discounts apply to your card.
Peluquería Rufi: a women-only salon with cut and colour services
Peluquería Rufi describes its salon as exclusively for women and lists washing, cutting, brushing, dye, highlights and hair treatments. The published address is Campos Cervera 5337, near República Argentina, Asunción. Its site provides a WhatsApp contact and asks customers to enquire about prices and availability.
For colour, a major length change or textured hair, ask for a consultation and examples from the stylist who would see you. A service list or photograph is not confirmation of specialist experience with your particular hair. These are the business’s published details, not an on-site assessment.
Choose by the work you need
Before comparing salons, describe your aim in one sentence: a scissor trim that keeps the length, a low fade, beard shaping, layers, root colour or a colour correction. That makes the consultation more useful than asking only for “a haircut”.
Save two references: a photo of your current hair in ordinary light and an example of the result you want. Explain what matters about the reference, such as the length above the ears or the fringe, rather than asking for an exact copy. If you wear curls, ask how the stylist assesses shrinkage and whether they prefer to see your hair in its usual state before the appointment.
For a fade, discuss where it should start and whether skin is exposed. For long hair, show the maximum length you are willing to lose with your fingers or a measurement. For beard work, point out the cheek and neck lines you want to preserve. The word “short” is not a reliable measurement.
Confirm the complete quote before the appointment
Ask for the price in Paraguayan guaraníes, the currency shown as Gs. or ₲. Do not treat a published “desde” price as a fixed total. If the salon needs to see your hair first, ask whether the consultation itself has a charge.
Confirm whether the quoted service includes washing, drying or brushing, styling, beard work, toner and any treatment. Ask what could change the price, especially hair length, quantity of product or extra colour stages. Request a revised quote before any addition starts.
Also confirm the stylist, expected duration, branch, payment methods and cancellation conditions. If a deposit is requested, ask for the amount, refund or rescheduling terms and payment recipient. A screenshot of a quoted price is useful; a vague “come in and we’ll see” is not an agreed total.
This guide does not publish a citywide haircut price range. A comparable, current set of like-for-like quotes was not established, and a cut-only price should not be compared with a cut, wash and beard package.
A Spanish message you can adapt
“Hola, quiero reservar [servicio]. Tengo el pelo [descripción] y busco [resultado]. ¿Quién del equipo trabaja con este tipo de pelo? ¿Me pueden confirmar la sucursal, el precio total, qué incluye y cuánto tiempo lleva? ¿Aceptan [medio de pago]? ¿Tienen disponibilidad el [día]?”
If language is important, add: “¿La persona que me atendería habla inglés o portugués?”. Ask about the person doing the service, not whether anyone at the business speaks your language. If necessary, prepare short translated sentences and show the references together before starting.
Do not send card details, identity documents or unrelated personal information just to enquire about a haircut. Use the contact linked from the business’s current site and check a changed payment request before paying.
Useful phrases in the chair
- “Solo las puntas; no más de dos centímetros.” Only the ends; no more than two centimetres.
- “Quiero mantener el largo.” I want to keep the length.
- “Con tijera, no con máquina.” With scissors, not clippers.
- “Un degradado bajo, sin llegar a la piel.” A low fade, without going down to skin.
- “No me rebajes más los costados.” Do not take the sides any shorter.
- “Quiero conservar esta línea de la barba.” I want to keep this beard line.
- “¿Eso está incluido en el precio?” Is that included in the price?
- “Pará un momento, por favor; quiero revisar el largo.” Please stop a moment; I want to check the length.
Point to the area while you speak. Before the first cut, ask the stylist to show the proposed length. Before leaving, look at the back and sides with a mirror and raise any adjustment while you can still discuss it clearly. For more everyday language, see learning Spanish in Asunción.
Colour, comfort and access
Tell the stylist about previous bleaching, straightening, dyes or reactions relevant to the proposed service. Ask whether a strand test or product-specific allergy test is needed and how much notice it requires. Follow the product and qualified professional’s safety instructions; this guide cannot assess whether a chemical service is suitable for you. Stop and alert the stylist if you feel burning or a concerning reaction.
The FDA’s hair-dye safety guidance recommends following the product instructions and skin testing before each use; a negative test does not rule out a later reaction.
Look at how tools, towels and the station are prepared between customers. For shaving, you can ask to see a fresh disposable blade fitted. Clean-looking surroundings do not establish that every hygiene procedure is correct; ask if you are unsure rather than treating a review score as a safety certificate.
If you need step-free access, a particular chair arrangement, a quieter appointment or another accommodation, confirm it with the branch before booking. No physical-access inspection was completed for these businesses.
A simple first-booking plan
Choose two suitable options, send the same description, and compare the replies rather than the follower counts. Book only after the result, branch and quote are clear. Save the address and appointment confirmation, then allow time to reach the right location using the Asunción transport guide.
You can also ask the Open Asu community for a recent experience with the specific service you need. A useful request names the hair texture, style, area and consultation language. A recommendation is a lead to check, not a guarantee of the same result.
