Bars in Asunción, Neighborhood by Neighborhood
Evenings out in Asunción gather in a few parts of the city: the old center, the Villa Morra side of town, the Paseo Carmelitas complex and the residential barrio of Las Mercedes, where bars and cafés have multiplied. This page groups bars by area, adds terraces and rooftops, and ends with how to get there and home. Venues open, move and close often, so check each one before you go.
Centro, the old center
The historic center has some of the city's longest-running music venues, and its streets are worth an early evening walk first. Start with our Calle Palma guide or the sample route.
Absoluto Rock Bar is a rock and metal bar at Herrera 163, near Fulgencio Yegros. It has been open for more than twenty years and hosts local and touring bands; British metal band Carcass is booked there for 30 November 2026 (The Asunción Times).
Britannia Pub, at Cerro Corá 851 between Estados Unidos and Tacuary, has been part of the old center's nights since 1990, according to its own site. It has two floors and a terrace, pub food and a rock soundtrack.
Club Condesa, at Chile 731 between Haedo and Humaitá, opened in May 2022 as a club and cultural space with a record shop, in a building that once belonged to the family of aviator Silvio Pettirossi (Diario HOY). The most recent public event listing we found was from September 2025, so check before visiting.
Getting back to your hotel is simplest by ride app; see our getting-around notes.
Villa Morra
Villa Morra is an official barrio on the east side of the city, and its name is also used for the wider area around it. Our Villa Morra guide explains where it is.
Palo Santo Brewing Co. is a craft brewery and bar at Del Maestro 722. It was the venue for a free public concert on 22 August 2026, during the British Embassy's British Week. Website: palosantobrewingco.com.py.
Malandra Café & Copas, at Olegario Víctor Andrade 1176, opened in February 2026 as a specialty coffee shop that also serves coffee-based cocktails, with and without alcohol (InfoNegocios). It works better for an early drink than a late night.
Carmelitas
"Carmelitas" is how most people refer to the area around the Paseo Carmelitas complex. It is not one of the city's 68 official barrios (ABC Color, 2023).
Paseo Carmelitas, at Avenida España and Malutín, describes itself as a food and entertainment complex that brings together bars, themed restaurants and services in the city's business district. It opened in 2005 and quickly became a fixture of Asunción nights, according to its own site. The tenants it lists in September 2026 include Kilkenny, Capitão Bar, El Nacido, Cover Singing Bar, Mume Mume Resto Bar, Bambuddha, Club Touch and School of Rock, alongside restaurants such as Bellini and Nacionsushi. It also lists paid parking with round-the-clock security. See paseocarmelitas.com.py for the current list and events, since tenants change.
With several bars in one complex, a group can move between venues on foot.
Las Mercedes
Las Mercedes is an official barrio, traditionally residential, where cafés, restaurants and bars keep opening. That growth has drawn complaints from residents: in May 2026 the city council asked the mayor to enforce zoning rules on night venues (ABC Color), and on 1 August 2026 the municipality ran inspections in response to reports of double parking, noise and venues without the right permits (Municipalidad de Asunción). Some places may change schedules or close, so check before visiting, park legally and keep the noise down when you leave.
Mercedes Garden opened in January 2026 in a former architecture studio with a garden patio. It holds two bars: Barba Negra at the front, a classic bar with grilled sandwiches, and La Mezcalería at the back, built around mezcal (InfoNegocios).
Cascarón, at Guido Spano 2729, is a neighborhood bar with Paraguayan dishes such as bife koygua sandwiches and torta hu, covered by InfoNegocios in 2024. Check before visiting.
Karu has a café branch at Padre Egidio Cardozo 553, listed on its own website, for coffee before the evening.
Terraces and rooftops
These open-air spaces have a current listing or recent coverage.
- Ko'ape Rooftop is a bar and restaurant on the roof of the Edificio Zenith, with Paraguayan flavors and a city view, according to its listing on Visit Paraguay, the national tourism office's site. InfoNegocios placed the building on Avenida Félix Bogado near Ana Díaz. Phone: 0971 461 290.
- Guay Rooftop is on the sixth-floor roof of the TRYP by Wyndham hotel, at San Martín 836 and Teniente Héctor Vera, with a Spanish-style menu (InfoNegocios, February 2026; Horeca; Visit Paraguay listing).
- Negroni is a bistro and bar on the roof terrace of the Dazzler hotel, at Avenida Aviadores del Chaco 1392 and Vasconcellos, per its own page. Reservations via WhatsApp: +595 981 844 434.
- La Tarantella, a Paraguayan restaurant chain, reopened its rooftop on 1 September 2026 with food and cocktails; trece placed it in Villa Morra. Reservations: 0981 902 029.
In the hottest months, rooftops are most comfortable after sunset. Our summer heat guide has more on timing your day.
Getting there and getting home
Ride apps are the simplest way to move between these areas at night and to get home; see booking a ride.
If you are driving, do not drink. Paraguay's highway patrol describes the rule as zero tolerance: under the Ministry of Public Works' published scale, fines start at 0.001 mg of alcohol per liter of breath, and from 0.400 mg/l the case is sent to prosecutors (MOPC). In Las Mercedes especially, park legally: double parking is one of the complaints behind the 2026 inspections.
