Waste and recycling in Asunción: collection days and drop-offs
For ordinary household rubbish in Asunción, check the municipality’s collection schedule for your address. For recycling, start with the material and choose a point that accepts it. Electronics, batteries, furniture and rubble need a separate check before you put anything outside.

How to check your household collection day
The municipality published its household collection schedule on 9 August 2026. The notice is organized by service zones and shifts. Use it as the starting point for your street, then check for newer municipal notices or an address-specific change. There is also a municipal schedule post on Facebook.
- Check the municipality first. This guide’s collection contact is for the city of Asunción. A nearby address in Lambaré, Fernando de la Mora, Luque or another municipality may have a different service.
- Find your neighbourhood and zone. Read the relevant schedule image in full, including its day group and shift. Do not borrow the schedule of a nearby neighbourhood or assume every part of a large barrio has the same route.
- Confirm the exact address if unclear. Ask building management where bags should go and use the Servicios Urbanos contact below if you cannot match your street to the published route.
- Check exceptions before putting bags out. Look for newer municipal notices around holidays, service changes or disrupted collection. A shift describes the service window; it does not promise the minute a truck reaches your door.
Keep ordinary household waste contained and follow the placement instructions for your building and route. Leave pavements and drains clear. Do not leave a bag beside a recycling container simply because the container is full or does not accept its contents.
What to do when the rubbish was not collected
A municipal notice dated 8 September 2026 gives 0985 853 144 as the Servicios Urbanos WhatsApp for complaints and questions. With Paraguay’s country code, use +595 985 853 144.
Check that the scheduled shift has passed, then have these details ready: neighbourhood, street and nearest cross street, the scheduled day and shift, when the bags were put out, and whether the problem affects one address or the block. A clear photo can help explain the situation. Send the address details and any photo privately to the official contact. Ask for the next step and keep any reference or reply.
Where to take recycling in Asunción
Mi País Sin Residuos brings together receiving points and material categories. Search for the material you have, open the point’s details and check the address and contact. Paper, glass, metal, flexible packaging and coffee capsules can have different destinations. The word “recycling” on a location does not mean it accepts all of them.
A dated shortlist: these three entries were listed on 12 October 2026; their individual map records were last updated in 2025. The map does not give a separate verification date or opening hours for every point. Confirm receipt, quantities and access before travelling, especially with a large load.
- Cardboard: Yaguarete Reciclaje, Mercado 4. The map’s cardboard results list the site at 9 de Marzo / Vicepresidente Sánchez and contact +595 981 509 627. This entry specifically lists cardboard. Ask about quantity and delivery conditions.
- Glass, aluminium and selected plastics: Cervepar/Cuida Py at Charles The Bar. Listed at Charles de Gaulle near Hassler, with contact +595 981 205 499 and an operator-supplied location pin. Its map entry is tagged for aluminium, glass and PET, PEAD, PEBD and PP plastics. PEAD and PEBD are the Spanish labels for high- and low-density polyethylene. Confirm your particular packaging and access to the receiving area.
- Coffee capsules: Coffee House del Sol. The map lists Aviadores del Chaco at Prof. Delia Frutos González under coffee capsules, with this location pin. Ask which capsule systems and preparation conditions are accepted before bringing them. This listing does not establish acceptance of your other household recyclables.
For other materials, use the map’s categories rather than bringing an extra bag on the assumption it will be accepted. A commercial or industrial receiving address may need an appointment. Confirm any minimum quantity, collection charge or delivery requirement directly with that operator.
A simple sorting routine at home
Set aside a dry place for the materials your chosen point actually accepts. Empty packaging, remove food residue and let it dry. Keep paper and cardboard dry; separate glass for transport. Follow the operator’s instructions about lids, labels, plastic types and carton packaging. A recycling symbol on a package is useful information about the material, but does not establish local acceptance.

Start with one manageable stream, such as the cardboard you already collect at home, and confirm its destination before stockpiling other materials. Keep loose batteries, bulbs, electronics, chemicals and sharp objects out of the ordinary mixed-recycling bag.

Electronics, batteries, furniture and other special waste
Electronic waste: operator-listed options
Solidaridad Sustentable’s “Tus RAEE acá” directory lists collection points for electrical and electronic waste. RAEE is the Spanish abbreviation you will see on these containers and pages. Two Asunción entries checked on 12 October 2026 are:
- UNIBE, Asunción: 15 de Agosto at Ygatimí. The operator lists Monday–Friday 08:00–19:30 and Saturday 08:00–13:00, with contact +595 986 100 680.
- HP Store: San Martín 1632 near Federación Rusa. The directory does not provide opening hours for this point.
The same operator advertises free electronics collection by arrangement and publishes +595 983 596 037. Ask whether your address and exact item are covered. Confirm acceptance before taking a large appliance, screen, loose battery or lamp; an electronics collection point is not proof that every one of these is accepted. Back up and remove personal data from a device before handing it over.
Bulky items, pruning, rubble and hazardous materials
A municipal notice from 30 January 2026 says compactors are for bagged household waste. Rubble, scrap iron and large branches need special collection arranged through municipal channels with suitable vehicles.
Before leaving furniture, a mattress, branches or construction rubble on the street, ask Servicios Urbanos which collection channel or authorized destination applies, whether booking is needed and whether there is a charge. We have not verified a standing, citywide free bulky-waste pickup service.
For batteries, fluorescent lamps, paint, solvents, oils or other hazardous materials, ask for a destination that specifically accepts that item. Keep them separate from ordinary rubbish and dry recyclables while you confirm the route. Do not pour residues into drains or burn them. Do not open, crush or dismantle a battery or electronic device to make it fit a collection container.
Frequently asked questions
What day is rubbish collected in my Asunción neighbourhood?
Match your address to the municipality’s published zone, neighbourhood, day group and shift, then check for newer notices. If the street or boundary is unclear, ask Servicios Urbanos to confirm the exact address.
Who do I contact about a missed pickup?
The municipality’s 8 September 2026 notice lists Servicios Urbanos WhatsApp 0985 853 144, or +595 985 853 144 with the country code. Provide your address and the scheduled collection day and shift.
Can I take all recyclables to any point on the map?
No. Match the specific material to the receiving point’s listing and confirm its current conditions. Glass, capsules, multilayer packaging and electronics can require different destinations.
Can I leave old electronics with my household rubbish?
Use an operator that accepts electrical and electronic waste, and confirm the exact item first. Solidaridad Sustentable lists Asunción drop-off points and offers collection by arrangement; acceptance of loose batteries, lamps and large appliances needs a separate check.
Build a routine that fits your household
For the rest of the first-month practicalities, see moving to Asunción and renting an apartment. The Open Asu community can be a place to ask neighbours about their experiences or suggest a shared trip to a confirmed receiving point. Check service details with the operator.
