Veterinary care in Asunción and San Lorenzo: plan the visit, not just the journey
Sources checked 29 October 2026
Before planning a veterinary visit, separate three questions: where the hospital is, which service you need, and whether that service is receiving patients. Nantes is in Asunción; the UNA veterinary hospital is in San Lorenzo, a separate municipality. Their published arrangements differ, especially for emergencies and scheduled services. This guide explains the contact routes and practical differences, without ranking clinical quality.
For a time-sensitive concern, seek veterinary help directly. Do not delay professional care to finish a checklist or wait for an email reply.

Nantes: separate ordinary consultations from emergency availability
Nantes Hospital Veterinario's website advertises emergency care 24 hours a day, every day. Its ordinary consultations have a separate schedule. The provider recommends appointments for routine visits; its FAQ says urgent visits do not require an appointment.
- Address: Andrade 689, between Garay and Salaskin, Villa Morra, Asunción.
- Telephone: 021 661953.
- Mobile/WhatsApp: 0971 280025.
The 24-hour advertisement concerns emergency care, not every service: the site's holiday information distinguishes ordinary clinic closures from emergency availability. For a planned visit, use the telephone or WhatsApp contact to confirm the particular consultation, test or service you need. The website does not establish live capacity or acceptance of a particular case.
The same website lists cash, bank transfer, credit card, debit card and cheque as payment methods. Ask for an estimate and confirm your intended method of payment, especially if you have a foreign-issued card: the list does not establish that those cards are accepted.
UNA: a teaching hospital in San Lorenzo, with hours to confirm
The FCV–UNA veterinary hospital is a university clinical and teaching service at Campus UNA, Ruta Mcal. Estigarribia km 11.5, San Lorenzo. Do not route a journey as though it were in central Asunción.
The faculty's Contacts page lists a hospital-specific number, 0981 526326, and hospital@vet.una.py. Use the number as a telephone contact; that page does not identify it as WhatsApp.
Its services page describes Monday–Friday consultations in arrival order, with exceptions for booked surgery, outside patients referred for tests, and scheduled specialty consultations. Ask which arrangement applies to your visit rather than assuming that arriving without an appointment guarantees care. Its published instructions also require the owner or responsible person to remain during care and wait until surgery is finished, so plan for that time commitment.
Why you should confirm the UNA cutoff: the detailed services text gives a 17:00 closing time; the site's recurring general footer says 16:00; an official service catalogue with page metadata dated 2023 says 13:00. These are conflicting published end times–not a dependable schedule for your visit. Ask the hospital for today's clinical hours, last registration time and entrance. Campus-gate hours are not consultation hours. This guide does not list UNA as an overnight emergency option or assume that university care is free.
Five questions for a planned visit
- Do you see this species, and is the service needed available today?
- Is an appointment or referral required, and when does registration close?
- Which entrance should we use? Explain any access requirements you have.
- What is the consultation charge, what might be billed separately, and which payment methods can I use?
- Which records and transport or containment arrangements should I bring?
Gather existing veterinary records, test results and current prescription information if available. Ask the practice what it needs rather than treating this as a universal admission checklist. Allow time to remain with the animal where required.
Useful Spanish questions are ¿Atienden a esta especie? (“Do you see this species?”), ¿Hasta qué hora reciben pacientes hoy? (“Until what time are you accepting patients today?”) and ¿Cuál es la entrada del hospital? (“Where is the hospital entrance?”).
Save the chosen contact and confirmed entrance before a planned visit. Official and provider web pages were reviewed on 29 October 2026. Contacts and service descriptions are published information, not a live availability check.
