Luque from Asunción: filigree workshops, buying and transport
Luque is useful to know beyond the airport: it is a place to look for locally made filigree, speak to jewellers and understand an important Paraguayan craft. From Asunción, make the trip around one confirmed workshop or sales space. A tourism circuit identifies places of interest; it does not guarantee a tour departing every day.

Two concrete starting points
| Place | Published location / map search | Contact and purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Asociación de Joyeros Luqueños | PGM3+GHF, Luque; IPA office | +595 981 722878 — exhibition, sales and workshop enquiries |
| Itaju Escuela de Joyería | PGH2+RQH, Luque; Mercado Municipal Nº 2 | +595 984 166136 — school/workshop visit enquiries |
SENATUR’s association listing places it at the Instituto Paraguayo de Artesanía office and describes a display and sales area as well as craft work. The Itaju listing identifies a school inside Mercado Municipal Nº 2, where students and craftspeople work with fine gold and silver wire. These are different stops; confirm the location pin directly because the published plus codes are navigation references, not detailed entrance instructions.
For a demonstration, ask “¿Se puede visitar el taller el [día]? ¿Hay demostración? ¿Tiene costo? ¿Necesito reservar?”. If you are interested in learning rather than observing, ask whether lessons accept new students, what the course requires and whether materials are included. The tourism description does not establish open enrolment.
Getting there from Asunción
Use the confirmed workshop as the destination, rather than just “Luque” or “the airport”. For a taxi or ride app, compare the live outward quote and a possible return quote before committing. There is no verified fixed fare or dependable journey duration in the sources used here; traffic and your starting neighbourhood change the calculation.
For a bus trip, check a current route to the particular part of Luque and the return service before leaving. We have not verified a line number, departure time or fare, so the circuit map should not be treated as a transport timetable. A half-day allowance is our planning suggestion if travelling from Asunción, not an official tour length.
The official circuit also includes the Virgen del Rosario church, old railway station, General Aquino mausoleum and historic pedestrian area. SENATUR publishes +595 983 981212 for circuit information. Ask whether any guided departure is actually operating and what it includes. The heritage railway stop does not establish a passenger train connection.
Buying filigree—or visiting without buying
Filigree uses fine metal threads shaped into delicate designs. Before buying, ask which metal is used, whether a piece is solid silver or gold, plated or made from another material, who made it, and the final price. Ask for the metal description and purchase details on the receipt, plus care and repair advice. A tourism listing cannot authenticate an individual piece.
You may want something for everyday wear, a locally made gift or simply a better understanding of the work. Ask whether the demonstration has a fee or purchase condition before agreeing; this guide does not promise a free visit or require you to buy jewellery. Photos and entry to a working area need the artisan’s agreement.
If access is unavailable on your date, decide whether shopping or the heritage stops still justify the journey. Do not substitute an unannounced workshop visit. For other destinations, compare the day-trip guide.

Frequently asked questions
Can I just turn up?
The listings identify places and contacts, not guaranteed walk-in demonstrations. Confirm the day, location and any appointment first.
How much does it cost?
No current circuit or workshop fee was verified. Ask for the total, what is included and whether purchases are optional. Budget transport separately.
Can I travel there by train?
The old station is listed as a heritage stop. The sources do not establish an operating passenger service.
