Alliance Française in Asunción: culture, media library and the right opening hours
The Alliance Française can be useful even when you are not planning a French course: its official site lists cultural activities and a media library open to the general public, with materials in French and Spanish. The practical detail is that office hours, media-library hours and an event’s start time are different things.
Choose the correct location
The Centro address is Mariscal Estigarribia 1039, between Brasil and Estados Unidos (map). The site also lists a Villa Morra address at Senador Long 463. Confirm the location attached to your activity rather than assuming the nearest branch hosts it.
The official website publishes Centro office hours as Monday–Thursday 10:00–13:00 and 14:00–19:00; Friday 10:00–12:00 and 13:00–15:00; Saturday 08:00–12:30 and 13:00–15:00. General enquiries: +595 21 210503 or info@alianzafrancesa.edu.py.
The media library has its own schedule
The media-library page, checked 19 October 2026, lists:
| Day | Published media-library hours |
|---|---|
| Monday | 11:30–19:00 |
| Tuesday | 08:00–13:00; 16:30–19:00 |
| Wednesday | 13:30–19:00 |
| Thursday | 16:00–19:00 |
| Friday | 13:30–19:00 |
| Saturday | 08:00–16:00 |
Some of those periods extend beyond the office timetable. They are separately published service hours; confirm holiday changes and access with mediateca@alianzafrancesa.edu.py before a special trip.
The page lists annual borrowing membership at Gs. 150,000 for external users and Gs. 100,000 for specified concession groups, including students and over-60s/retirees. Certain affiliated groups are listed as free. Confirm your category and required documents. Published loan limits are three books for three weeks and two newspapers or magazines for one week; dictionaries and encyclopedias remain on site. The work area’s free Wi-Fi is described for registered users, not as unrestricted walk-in coworking.
Culture: check the actual announcement
On 19 October the official cultural calendar displayed “¡No hay eventos!”. That is an empty calendar at the time of checking, not proof that the institution has stopped cultural programming. The site links to AF Cine and official social accounts; use those or the contact above to confirm a current event, price, reservation, language and subtitles.
For a visitor, one confirmed event may be enough. For someone living here, the borrowing service and repeat activities are the more useful reason to keep the institution on your list.
