Asunción has more guided walks than most people expect, and many of them are free. The catch is timing. Some run every week; many run only on dates the organisers announce a few days ahead. This page tells you which is which, what language to expect, and where to look for the next date.

Details checked on 26 September 2026. Dates and times change, so check before you go.

Asu Jeguata

Asu Jeguata is the city's free walking tour of the historic center, passing the Panteón, the Cathedral, the Cabildo and free museums such as the Museo de Economía. It is open to the public on Saturdays; on weekdays it mostly hosts schools and groups.

Recent editions left from Manzana de la Rivera, at the corner of Ayolas and Benjamín Constant. The 1 May 2026 edition started at 10:00 and needed no registration. The city announces each date on its social media and in the news section of asuncion.gov.py, so check there first. Map of the usual start

Free walking tours in English

Viajero Tours runs a free walk with English departures, Monday to Saturday at 08:30, about three and a half hours. Confirm the meeting point when you book. Viajero Tours

GuruWalk lists three walks in English and Spanish:

  • Asunción Historic Center Free Walking Tour, meeting on Paraguayo Independiente.
  • Historical center of Asunción and the walk through downtown, meeting in front of the Panteón.
  • Stories of Asunción: from the train of yesteryear to Bar San Roque, about 2 hours at 11:00 and 15:00, meeting at the main entrance of the Museo Ferroviario in the Estación Central.

A fourth, Asunción with art and history, is in Spanish only. GuruWalk Asunción

Booking costs nothing, but guides expect a cash tip at the end. Guides suggest about US$10 to 20; bring cash.

Club de los Caminantes

SENATUR, the national tourism office, lists guided city walks on weekdays at 10:00 from Turista Roga on Palma, open to visitors and residents. Book on +595 983 981 212, and confirm it is still running before you plan around it. Map

When announced

These run on specific dates only. All the dates below have passed; they show the pattern, not the next edition.

Secretos del Palacio

A free guided visit inside the Palacio de López. In 2026, editions ran on 8 March, 19 April and 6 September, all at 10:00. Registration is required each time, through the edition's page on asuncion.live or by phone at (0983) 981-212. Each form covers up to 3 people, registration closes when full or 48 hours before, and children under 13 must come with an adult. The meeting point is Plaza de los Desaparecidos. QR stands along the route carry content in Spanish, English, sign language and audio description. Map

Chacarita

Free tours of the Chacarita (barrio Ricardo Brugada), led with people who live there. The barrio is the birthplace of the guarania, and the walks take in murals and the home area of José Asunción Flores. Recent editions: Chacarita: Arte e Historia on 12 and 26 September 2026 at 10:00, and ChacaTours on 25 April 2026. Registration is online, most likely through each edition's page on asuncion.live.

Loma San Jerónimo

Asunción's first officially designated tourist barrio: colourful houses, stairways and lanes on a hill near the port. You can walk it any time, for free; expect stairs. Guided visits are typically on weekends, and the city lists a San Jerónimo circuit among its free tours, but publishes no fixed times. Map

Two kinds of guided visit. Mandu'arã tours run on some Saturday afternoons at 16:00 for ₲10.000, children up to 12 free (the last one we found was 13 June 2026, gate 3). Tour Necrópolis is free and runs three times a year: Semana Santa, the July holidays, and late October or early November. It has drawn 200 to 300 people. No next date was announced when we checked. One-off circuits

The city runs a yearly program of themed circuits, set out in its 2026 announcement. One recent example: a Hoteles con Historia tour of the Hotel Guaraní on 28 September 2026, for ₲35.000. These appear on asuncion.live and in our Explore listings.

Tips

  • Check the date first. For anything except the weekly walks, look for the current edition before you go.
  • Register early. Free tours with limited places fill up.
  • Bring cash for tip-based walks and small fees.
  • Go early in summer. Morning walks are easier in the heat. See our summer heat guide.
  • Getting there. Most tours start in the old center, roughly 15 to 30 minutes by ride app from the Villa Morra side. See booking a ride.

For museums you can visit on your own, see our museums guide and things to do in Asunción. Prefer to go with people? Join an Open Asu meetup.
